Meet our wonderful staff who run Hamilton Arts Council day to day!

JOANNA JOHNSON

GENERAL MANAGER / PROGRAM & ADMIN COORDINATOR

Joanna Johnson is a visual artist, graphic designer, web designer, and teacher. She graduated from McMaster University for Fine Arts and Multimedia in 2012 and acquired a Bachelor of Education from Brock University in 2014. Joanna previously worked for 8 years as the Artistic Director of the M.A.D Creative Arts School. 

Hamilton-born and raised, she comes from a very artistic household, which was full of music and expression. Having spent several years abroad, she eagerly jumped back into Hamilton's thriving arts scene.

JESSICA VINLUAN

OUTREACH & COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

Jessica Vinluan is a Filipina-Canadian, born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. She is a recent Brock University Concurrent Education graduate with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and a Bachelor of Education Major in English Language and Literature and Minor in Visual Arts. She is an Ontario Certified Teacher and has completed the English Language Learners Additional Qualification. She is the founder of Redefine Twenty, co-founder of Filipinas Of HamOnt, and was nominated for the YWCA Hamilton Young Women of Distinction Award 2020. She enjoys painting, reading, and misses indoor rock climbing. Jessica is excited to work alongside and learn from the Hamilton Arts Council and Community.

SEAGER WAKIL

PROMOTIONS & OUTREACH ASSISTANT

Originally from the Niagara Region, Seager is now living in Hamilton and thrilled to join the local arts community. Seager is a recent graduate from the BA Creative Industries program at Ryerson University, where he specialized in design studies and television producing. His interests are in design strategy, graphic design, and user experience. With previous experience in, and a love for, community-based arts + culture programming, Seager is excited to work as Promotions + Outreach Assistant for the Hamilton Arts Council.

DAVID HUDSON

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT OFFICER

David Hudson has been performing, creating and appreciating contemporary dance for over twenty years. Born and raised in Oxford, UK , David trained at The Laban Centre in London. David has enjoyed a diverse career as a performer, choreographer, and lecturer in dance and movement. He is currently based in Hamilton and is artistic director of The David Hudson Dance Company. David is also co-chair of 'DanceHamOnt' - a committee to support and nurture local dance and movement artists.

ALEXIS MOLINE

BUILDING CULTURAL LEGACIES -  CONTENT CURATOR

Alexis Moline is a curator, writer and researcher who has worked in Vancouver, Toronto and Hamilton. She received her Master of Museum Studies in collaboration with the Sexual Diversity Studies program from the University of Toronto. She is currently the Content Curator for the Building Cultural Legacies project at the Hamilton Arts Council. Her research explores how art has represented sexuality and gender both explicitly and implicitly and how it has influenced social change through the lens of cultural heritage, gallery and museum spaces.

OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Members of the Board of Directors act as ambassadors of the Hamilton Arts Council and the wider arts community it serves. 

The Board is comprised of individuals from different sectors in the arts as well as professionals in the business community. 

The role of the Board is to advise on policy, planning and strategic direction, and assist with the leadership and promotion of the Hamilton Arts Council’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
