In anticipation of the launch of the virtual exhibition, the cut, the tear & the remix: contemporary collage and Black futures, curated by Stylo Starr, the MMA presents an online, live coding performance with artist Kofi Oduro (Illestpreacha). LiveSpoken: Remixing the World Around Us is an exploration of how live coding resonates with our global environment.
Combining coding technology with the improvisational nature of the cypher - seen in the hip-hop community as freestyle jams - plus the practice of collaging where re-mixes occur, this interactive transmedia performance is created in dialogue with the audience and will showcase the mergers that happen between life and art in a digitally enhanced spectacle where sounds, visuals, and other forms of interactivity are produced through the live writing of computer code.
Kofi Oduro (Illestpreacha) is a Montreal based artist, creative coder and experience enhancer who merges an array of media to provide unique experiences that promote discussion, reflection, and interaction. With over 10 years of performance, event production and audiovisual output, he takes inspiration from creative endeavours that are not normally seen together, generating digital “cut and paste” experiences in real time.
