The Volunteer Board of Directors for Hamilton Arts Council (HAC) is seeking to expand its inclusiveness and diversity in order to reflect the community we serve.

About Hamilton Arts Council (HAC):

Founded in 1969 and Incorporated in 1973, HAC is one of the longest serving arts councils in Ontario. Our current programming includes a  soon-to-launch digital platform called “The Arty Crowd”. This new website will be a central hub connecting art lovers and artists of all genres from across the Greater Hamilton Area (GHA). Board members are responsible for:

  • Monitoring the strategic direction and fiscal accountability of the organization;

  • Building the board’s reputation and moving the organization forward by demonstrating the principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in all interactions;

  • Participating in monthly online board meetings of up to 90 minutes; 

  • Participating on sub-committees as may be needed from time-to-time; and

  • Serving a minimum of one two-year term, to a maximum of three two-year terms. 


Applications to join the board are being encouraged from those who are:

  • Living/working in the Greater Hamilton Area, including Six Nations of the Grand River;

  • Members of communities that are: BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour), LGBTQ2S+, Deaf, persons with disabilities, neurodivergent, Francophone, and youth (under 30-years-old);

  • Artists (from all genres including: dance, fashion, film/television, literary arts, music, theatre, visual arts), arts supporters, organization administrators, or business entrepreneurs; and

  • Experienced in one of the following areas (preferred): finance, information technology, legal, or marketing.
